Route distance versus straight-line distance

Why route total exceeds endpoint distance.

Activity distance sums accepted route segments. Straight-line distance measures only endpoints, so turns and loops naturally produce a longer total.

What to do

  1. Use activity distance for effort and territory.
  2. Use map scale for visual context.
  3. Check for GPS jumps if the total seems impossible.
